The 81st WOA Annual Meeting
Content, Collegiality and So Much More

The 81st WOA Annual Meeting highlighted a variety of aspects that are unique to the WOA. The Meeting’s content included multispecialty panel discussions focused on current and controversial issues as well as informative “rapid fire” research presentation modules.

The “rapid fire” sessions allowed clinicians, orthopaedic surgery residents and medical students to stand in front of a packed room of surgeons and concisely convey their investigation’s purpose, results and conclusions. The audience members and session moderator have a set allotted time to ask relevant questions that further enhance the experience. You learn many interesting things.

The Meeting is infused with collegiality as old friendships are refreshed and new relationships are developed. I was able to spend time catching up with friends that I hadn’t seen in 30 years, as well as interact with residents, medical students and young clinicians.

Also in attendance, representing their societies, are the presidents of the AAOS, MidAmericaOA, EasternOA, and SouthernOA. And, to top it off, this year’s Howard Steel Lecturer was Walt Cunningham, one of the original Apollo astronauts. His fascinating stories about the early years and the evolution of NASA kept us on the edge of our seats.

Only at the WOA can you easily mingle with leadership, come away with some new knowledge, and get to know a living legend. Please join us in Snowmass, Colorado in 2018 for another great experience!
